An easy way to bring any theme together starts with the linens. Keeping the table surface neutral gives you an opportunity to use napkins and place mats to play up a particular palette. Sticking to no more than two or three colors will keep your setting from looking overly themed. For an inexpensive centerpiece, try the flower or produce section of your local supermarket. Both fruit and followers arranged in a vase or decorative bowl will lend complimentary color for little cost. As for glassware, try to look for colorful glasses at thrift stores, or bring out your family heirlooms. Combining new with old and color with clear are both beautiful ways to mix-match. For large gatherings, add a personal touch to your table with hand-lettered place cards at each seat. Your own loopy twist on calligraphy is an elegant yet playful way to welcome your guests in style. If you don’t already have one, a striking tray is a great way to bring organization and beauty to the beverages you serve. If you’re serving a variety of drinks, consider also accessorizing the bar. Table décor can be absolutely free! You can accessorize the bar inexpensively with a bouquet of carnations or shells and driftwood from the beach. Even pinecones or a vase of twigs can have a great effect on your table’s theme. A bright and cheerful table setting can have just as much of an effect as the tasty meal itself, and perhaps can be a lot cheaper!
