Lighting is a great way to set the tone for your party. Different colored lights can definitely change a mood, so it is important to make sure you have the proper and appropriate lighting for your event.
For a formal dinner, more light is better. For a cocktail hour, low lighting for your guest to mingle in seems to work the best. If having a party at your house, turn off the overhead lights and just use lamps and candle lighting.
For wedding receptions, you can actually do different kinds of lighting throughout the night. You can start the reception with brighter lights, then dim these for when the band or DJ gets fired up for dancing. Never make it too dark to where guests can’t see to get around the space safely.
For events outdoors, add special chandeliers for tents, lanterns, floating candles, and bistro lights. Always make sure you have enough lighting when hosting an event outside when it will be dark. If needed, provide flashlights for your guest if they need to be able to read a program.
